# How to open a loan

A loan on Dolomite lets you borrow assets against collateral without selling your holdings.

## Open your loan

1. Open **Loans** and select **Open Loan**. You can also start by selecting an asset in **Borrowable Assets**.
2. Under **Collateral**, select an asset and enter an amount. Choose **Dolomite** to use your Dolomite balance or **Wallet** to use assets from your wallet.
3. Under **Debt**, select the asset you want to borrow and enter an amount. Choose **Dolomite** or **Wallet** as the destination, or **Loop** to use the borrowed funds to increase your collateral.
4. If you plan to use an isolation-mode asset, select it under **Isolation mode** now. Only one isolation-mode asset is allowed per loan, and this choice cannot change later.
5. Review **Net equity**, **Position health**, **Liquidation threshold**, and **Liquidation price**. Adjust your amounts to leave room for price changes and borrowing interest.
6. Select **Open loan**, then review and confirm the request in your wallet.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Borrowing carries liquidation risk. Keep your position health safely above 1 and monitor your loan after opening it. Read [Risk Management](/risk-management.md) before borrowing.
{% endhint %}

See [Risk Management](/risk-management.md) for forced expiration and automatic E-Mode.
